Hydric Soil

Soil that is saturated long enough to periodically produce anaerobic conditions, thereby influencing the chemical reactions in the soil and the differential success of biota. Federal Section 404 regulatory definition of wetlands includes the presence of hydric soils as one of three parameters (along with wetland vegetation and hydrology).
